Motherhood takes many different forms, all of whic Motherhood takes many different forms, all of which are imperfect and extraordinary all at once. This Mother’s Day, we honor our earthly mothers and grandmothers and thank them for their lifetime of nurture and care. We honor the many Sisters who serve at KBI and thank them for their service and charity that makes our mission possible. We honor our Spiritual mother, Mary, and thank her for her guidance, protection and for teaching us what it means to truly love. And lastly, we recognize and honor the sheer strength, fierce love and sacrifice exemplified by the many migrant mothers who arrive at Kino in search of a better life for themselves and their children.

💕 Happy Mother's Day! 💕
"The Comedor, or the dining hall, is the heart of "The Comedor, or the dining hall, is the heart of #KBI’s ministry. For many migrants, who have suffered #detention, #deportation, or days in the desert- a kind face serving them a warm meal reminds them that they are safe, supported and most importantly, of their humanity.

The meal service evolved from the back of vans to a small building near the Mariposa port of entry. In its early stages, the building lacked all four walls and could only squeeze 90 people at a time. Yet, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist, the Jesuits, and lay staff and volunteers made it work. They offered two meal services a day and expanded services to include: first aid, clothing, “Know Your Rights” training, and more.

KBI’s food service has grown substantially since those early days. Back in 2013, we served 48,788 meals. In 2021 alone we served 199,420 meals. From serving 90 people at a time with 2 meal services, we can now accommodate up to 160 people at once in the dining room at our Migrant Outreach Center. Due to the #pandemic, we have been serving to-go meals to the majority of the hundreds of #migrants who have sought that support, but as our shelter fills up we are welcoming more people into the dining area itself.” ❤🙏

“We had to seek asylum to escape extortion and v “We had to seek asylum to escape extortion and violent persecution by military groups. Nobody is exempt…these groups have no boundaries meaning women and children, my children, were also subject to their violence. Now we find ourselves still at the U.S. border, so far from home but again suffering from extortion and persecution. We find ourselves stuck here and all we ask for is protection for our children.” Carlota says.

Carlota found #KBI after fleeing violence from Guerrero, MX with her young children. After a long, difficult journey, they made it to #Nogales seeking #asylum only to find out there was no option under #Title42.

Ending Title 42 is a step in the right direction to restoring access to asylum humanely, fairly, and orderly. We stand ready to #WelcomeWithDignity

------------------------
“Nosotros decidimos solicitar el #asilo por la situación que estábamos viviendo en la sierra del estado de Guerrero. Buscamos asilo para escapar de la extorsión y persecución del gobierno y los grupos militares. Esos grupos no respetan a nadie.
