Deaths in the Desert

For migrants attempting to cross the U.S.–Mexico border in the sweltering summer months, a wrong turn or a leaky water bottle can be a death sentence. (This article is reprinted from the Summer 2015 newsletter, with updated statistics and information.) In April 2014, an impressive delegation of Catholic clergy—including seven bishops and 17 priests—visited Nogales, Arizona to draw attention to the immigration crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border. Making Friends for the Kino Border Initiative

Here is a letter you can sign from the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the U.S. and Jesuit Refugee Service/USA to President Obama that outlines the urgent need to protect …Read More

Immigration in the News

This month, the KBI and Father Sean were featured in a Milwaukee television news report covering his speaking trip to the city. Other articles and videos deal with the history of immigration, the economic contribution of migrants, deaths along the U.S.–Mexico border, and renewed deportation efforts among other topics. From CBS 58 (5/5/16), a video report about the KBI and interview with Father Sean during his May visit to Milwaukee to speak at Marquette University, Marquette University High …Read More
