KBI Stands in Opposition to the Expansion of Remain in Mexico

The Kino Border Initiative strongly opposes the expansion of Remain in Mexico to the Tucson sector. Beginning on Friday, November 22, CBP will transfer many asylum-seeking families and individuals from the Tucson area to El Paso before forcing them to remain in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico for the duration of their asylum proceedings. At KBI, our Catholic values are rooted in a commitment to the well-being, dignity, and rights of all people. At taxpayer expense, this decision will transport people …Read More

“A Vertical Wall”: Immigration Enforcement In Mexico

He dreams of bringing his family to safety and opportunity in the U.S.  Rodrigo (name changed at his request to protect privacy) is a 51-year-old asylum-seeker …Read More

Media Report: October-November 2019

Our report this month includes news stories about the implications of the Supreme Court decision in Hernández v. Mesa; the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the six Jesuit priests and their two coworkers in El Salvador; and the ways in which the anti-immigrant attitude of Arizona’s political climate is now giving way to a new wave of politicians whose lives were directly impacted by these policies and who are taking office to change realities in the state. Supreme Court hearing of …Read More
