SAVE THE DATE- KinoBorderInitiative invites you to join us on International Day of the Migrant, December 18th, for our binational #posada to “Restore Protections for Holy Families.”
Las Posadas, (which means, “The Inns”), is a religious festival celebrated in Mexico and various Latin American countries. Families dress up as Joseph and Mary to reenact the Holy Family’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe place to give birth to their son, Jesus.
This Posada season takes on a very different tone for us in Nogales as countless migrants have arrived this year to the U.S.-Mexico border seeking the very refuge that our Holy Family once sought long ago. Cruel and inhumane policies such as Title 42 and MPP, otherwise known as Remain In Mexico, turn their back on people seeking asylum and endanger their lives.
As we stand in solidarity with the many families seeking #asylum, we remain steadfast to Pope Francis’s vision to strive towards an ever wider “we”. He reminds us in His message on World Day of Migrants and Refugees (2021),“The truth however is that we are all in the same boat and called to work together so that there will be no more walls that separate us, no longer others, but only a single “we”, encompassing all of humanity.”
Join us in supporting families seeking asylum in taking action to demand the full restoration of asylum protections.
