Finding God’s Light Amid Darkness

Throughout 2020, there were moments when dark shadows were cast at the U.S.-Mexico border between the implementation of the devastating Remain in Mexico policy in Nogales, record breaking numbers of migrant deaths in the desert, rampant decimation of sacred land for border wall construction, and the onset of a pandemic that would alter the context of the border and our work in unimaginable ways. The Senate Passed the Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains Act The Senate, in a rare moment of unanimous agreement, passed a humanitarian bill now signed into law that will provide funding and resources to be able to better locate and rescue migrants on their dangerous trek through the desert as well as identify remains for those who tragically do not survive the journey. Father Sean Carroll, SJ, Named Provincial of Jesuits West Our executive director, Fr. Sean Carroll, SJ, has been appointed by Father General Arturo Sosa, SJ, to serve as the next provincial of the Jesuit West Province, succeeding Fr. Scott Santarosa, SJ.
