Call to Action: Support Human Rights in Nicaragua

Last month, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators introduced legislation to address the current crisis in Nicaragua. The Nicaragua Human Rights and Anticorruption Act of 2018 would:

  • impose sanctions on Nicaraguan government officials responsible for protester deaths, human rights violations, and corruption;
  • call for a negotiated political solution to the country’s crisis;
  • require intelligence reporting on corruption and human rights abuses; and
  • compel annual certification by the U.S. that the Nicaraguan government is complying with democratic principles, human rights laws, and anti-corruption standards.

Please join the KBI in supporting this proposed bill by calling your representatives in the Senate. Contact information is available at: https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm. You can read the bill in its entirety at: https://www.foreign.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/7-18-18%20Nicaragua%20Sanctions%20bill%20SIGNED.pdf. Thank you for standing with the citizens of Nicaragua and against the government violence and human rights abuses they are suffering.
