Stop the Indefinite Detention of Children!

After the public outcry in response to separated migrant children held in cages, the solution proposed by the Trump administration is to hold them in cages with their parents—with no time limit! Announced in early September, the new rule would reverse the long-standing Flores Agreement, which outlines standards of care and stipulates a 22-day maximum detention period for minors. The most effective way to fight back against this proposal is to get as many people as possible to participate in the 60-day public comment period which ends on November 6, 2018. Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) has made this easy by providing a toolkit to submit comments and organize an event to collect them.

You can download CLINIC’s toolkit here: https://cliniclegal.org/resources/use-toolkit-learn-more-about-public-comment-process-and-organize-your-own-public-comment. And for more information about this newly proposed rule, go to: https://cliniclegal.org/flores. Thank you for your advocacy and leadership!

For the sake of human decency; an ethos of kindness and compassion; and a restoration of the dignity of American ideals; and the sanctity of family love, I beg of you to work dilligently to find the families of these cruelly detained children, now permanently traumatized, and return to them their precious children.

This extremely cruel practice, which has done little to discourage asylum seekers from lining up at the border points of entry,
has not achieved it’s goal. The real consequences are bourn by the anguished parents of these traumatized children, and the children themselves. It our country more “secure” with hundreds of suffering children in detention camps? Why are they still there?
