Today, we received the disappointing news that a group of bipartisan Senators are introducing a bill that would prevent the Biden administration from lifting Title 42 until they see a plan.
This message runs counter to advocacy both the migrants, KBI and the Florence Project has been pushing for the last two years to call out the racist use of Title 42 to bar migrants from seeking their right to asylum and to demand for its immediate full restoration.
Hi, my name is _____________, and I am (identify yourself in AZ or your respective state, i.e. a student at X school, a parishioner at X, a community member in X, AZ), and I am calling to urge that Senator (name)’s VOTE NO on the Public Health and Border Security Act of 2022 bill, to keep Title 42 in place. As a (ID yourself: person of faith, person who wants to live in a welcoming state), I believe that we have a moral call to welcome people with dignity, and I know we have the capacity to do so, because we’ve done it before. Title 42 has excluded families freeing danger from their right to protection for two years.
Senator (X)’s Public Health and Border Security Act of 2022 goes against the work migrants and allies like me have been doing for the last 2 years, and calls into question the Senator’s care for the families put in danger by this policy. Every day that Title 42 remains in place is a day that mothers, fathers and children face threats, violence and kidnapping in border towns across northern Mexico. I urge Senator (X) to work with the Biden Administration to swiftly end Title 42 and put in place a humane process for families to access protection and welcome in the US. Thank you for your time.
