Medical Practitioner
“WHAT INSPIRES ME THE MOST ARE THE PEOPLE.”
As our Medical Practitioner, Cintya Yazmin Madrigal joined the KBI team in November 2022. Since then, she has worked altruistically, providing people with holistic care and humanitarian assistance.
What inspires her the most are the people. Many arrive with health complications and complicated life circumstances that aggravate health issues. Dr. Yazmin feels that she helps alleviate pain, even in a minor way, and supports the well-being of those in migration.
For Dr. Yazmin, carefully listening to patients is vital to supporting their health. As mentioned, complicated life circumstances like forced displacement, family separation, grieving loss and death, and the stress of migration aggravate health issues. Listening and patiently sorting through intersectional and interlocking problems helps Dr. Yazmin find the appropriate treatment.
She says, “Many are navigating uncertainty, even being in a safe place like the KBI shelter, they continue with the uncertainty of what will happen to them tomorrow, even crossing, that is why the impact on health is more significant. One has to have the tact to be able to listen to them or detect what is causing their immune system or their defenses to drop, which is why each patient implies a little more time, more energy, more love, and more warmth to be able to encompass and be able to put the pieces together for a good diagnosis.”
