Presentations
Our education team is available to be virtually present at your parish, school, or organization to discuss a variety of topics related to immigration and our work in Ambos Nogales, which could include a presentation about the following:

  • US-Mexico border realities
  • How KBI and other faith groups are responding to the humanitarian crisis
  • Undocumented immigration and the causes and possible solutions
  • Catholic social teaching and incorporating reflection about our beliefs and concerns regarding immigrants and immigration
Immersion Experiences
Since KBI’s inception, we have been offering eye-opening, informative, reflective Immersion Experiences ranging from 3-5 days. Our Immersion Experiences offer participants an opportunity to spend time with migrants, learn from their stories, and understand the broader context of the border and immigration. As a result of COVID-19, we have converted these trips into Virtual Immersion Experiences, transferring the essence of an in-person experience to the screen where trip participants virtually “cross” the border to Nogales, Sonora to meet with migrants, tour our resource center, accompany the Kino team in providing humanitarian services, as well as participate in sessions that allow them to chat with migrants in the US, “hike” in the desert, converse with ranchers in a rural town in southern Arizona, and reflect on legal issues and the immigration system.

Immersion Experiences, whether in person or virtual, are intended to humanize the immigration issue and to recognize its complexity, while emphasizing accompaniment of migrants on their journey. Over the course of the trip, there are spaces for reflection on the experiences and times to plan follow-up activities and action.

Kino Teens

The first Kino Teens group was founded at Lourdes Catholic School in Nogales, Arizona and clubs that have extended across the country. The Kino Teens is a network of high school youth groups that provide students with the tools, opportunities, and strategies to welcome migrants in their communities.

For more information on any of the above programs, please contact Jaret Ornelas at jornelas@kinoborderinitiative.org
