March-April KBI Announcements

Join the KBI Team

We are still accepting applications for the positions of Director of Communications and the Director of Finance and Administration.

The Director of Communications is responsible for humanizing the realities of migration and encouraging engagement from individuals and communities through various communication tools, including a bilingual, content-rich and interactive social media presence, a monthly newsletter, connections with traditional media, and the KBI annual report. The Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for overseeing the overall financial management and internal controls, managing all human resource functions, and directing general business operations of the organization in a way that will allow all Kino Border Initiative legal entities in the US and Mexico to effectively fulfill its mission.

Good Friday Service

On Good Friday, staff and migrants gathered outdoors at the migrant resource center in Nogales, Sonora to remember Jesus’ sacrifice and  his live lived out for us. Our Education Coordinator, Jaret Ornelas, SJ, led us in prayer and reflection.

SaveAsylum Banner Action and Phone Bank

The Kino Border Initiative and the larger #SaveAsylum Coalition organized a two-day, two-part action on March 10th and 11th to demand that Secretary Mayorkas meet with the men, women, and children migrants in Nogales, Sonora. On March 10th, several churches, organizations, and immigration advocacy groups from Tucson to Washington D.C. unveiled banners with messages that called for the restoration of asylum on the US-Mexico border. On March 11th, immigration advocates and migrants organized a phone bank to call the Department of Homeland Security to voice their demands of Secretary Mayorkas.

Hand in Hand We Can

Thank you to KBI’s generous supporters for making the KBI fundraising event, Hand in Hand We Can, a huge success! It was an informative and engaging virtual event showcasing the KBI mission and tributes to Fr. Sean Carroll, SJ and welcoming KBI’s new Executive Director, Joanna Williams. If you didn’t get a chance to join the event, click here to watch!
