Juan Cuellar

Director of Education and Advocacy

As the Director of Education and Advocacy at the Kino Border Initiative, Juan leads the organization’s efforts to promote humane, just, and workable migration through community education and policy advocacy. He oversees strategic priorities, guides a binational team, and cultivates partnerships to advance KBI’s mission in the U.S.-Mexico border region and beyond.

The Education team designs and delivers programs that raise awareness about migration realities, grounded in the lived experiences of migrants. It creates spaces of encounter, hosts immersion experiences, and provides training that inspires understanding, solidarity, and action for humane migration policies.

The Advocacy team amplifies migrant voices to influence policy and public opinion. It builds strategic relationships, collaborates with allied networks, documents human rights abuses, and engages media and policymakers to drive systemic change toward dignity and justice in migration.
