June – July Announcements

Catholic Sisters Walking with Migrants is accepting applications!

Thanks to a grant from the Hilton Foundation, KBI is offering religious sisters a month-long volunteer opportunity for hands-on advocacy training. For full details and directions to apply, click here.

KBI seeks in-kind donations for migrants in the hot summer months.

It’s time to support our migrant siblings! The scorching summer heat in the Sonoran desert can be deadly, and we are seeking some basic humanitarian items to supply to people on the move. We’re looking for hats, sunscreen, and other essentials for staying safe in extreme heat. Click here for details on how to donate.

Sr. Eileen met with Ignatian Colleagues

Sr. Eileen presented to the faculty and leadership of various Jesuit colleges and schools. Her goal was to offer these leaders an inside look at the work of KBI and firsthand experience of KBI’s programs and offerings.

Celebrating KBI Leadership Days

Leadership Days are our teen-centered, week-long immersive experience and leadership training in Nogales, AZ and Sonora. Participants learned valuable skills, such as how to lobby their members of Congress, how to craft effective messages for advocacy purposes, and how to use storytelling for social change. Click here to learn more.

Changing the Narrative: KBI headed to Chicago.

In July, Sr. Eileen McKenzie, and Bernie Eguia headed to Chicago for a strategic set of events promoting solidarity between people on the move and those who have not migrated. Sr. Eileen connected with other members of religious orders thanks to a partnership with Sisters of the Living Word and Viator House, while Bernie brought together people who came through KBI’s Migrant Outreach Center in Nogales who are now residing in Chicagoland. Your prayers for clear communication, open hearts, and meaningful, humanizing connections between these two groups were much appreciated!

Applications for Winter volunteer positions are open.

Kino Border Initiative thrives because of the dedication and solidarity of volunteers from both sides of the border. For more information, click here.
