KBI December Announcements

This month, we bring you news of the latest report prepared by the Washington Office on Latin America which includes data from the KBI as well as a local feature about the comedor and information about two upcoming KBI events—the Bi-National Posada in Nogales, Sonora and the annual Fundraising Dinner in Phoenix.

  • WOLA Report: The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) has released a report called An Uncertain Path: Justice for Crimes and Human Rights Violations against Migrants and Refugees in Mexico. The research was conducted in collaboration with and using data from several Mexican organizations, including the Kino Border Initiative. To read and print the report, please go to: www.wola.org/sites/default/files/An%20Uncertain%20Path_Nov2015.pdf.
  • The latest issue of Edible Baja Arizona features a profile of the comedor, the dedicated KBI staff and volunteers who run it, and those who seek sustenance and solace there: http://ediblebajaarizona.com/displaced-hunger.
  • KBI Bi-National Posada: Organized by the KBI, this event, held on Sunday, December 20 in Nogales, Sonora, features music, food, and other customs to remember Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to give birth to Jesus. Buses leave from Phoenix at 9:00am (meet at Catholic Charities, 4747 N. 7th Avenue). The cost per rider, (which includes the bus ride and festival food) is $25. Please remember to bring your passport. Contact Akira Pastula at 602-690-4832 for more information. ¡Bendicíones de Navidad a todos!

  • Phoenix Fundraising Dinner: Mark your calendars for the Kino Border Initiative annual fundraising dinner in Phoenix on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Look for more information on the KBI website in the coming month. Hope to see you there!
