KBI May Announcements

Students from Xavier High School in New York City garnered a $10,000 award for the KBI at the Ignatian Social Justice Tournament with a presentation about their KBI experience earlier this year.

This past month, the KBI participated in an immigration conference in Mexico, sponsored a video conference available for streaming, and hosted numerous immersion groups. We are also grateful to Xavier High School in New York City for raising $10,000 for the KBI at the Ignatian Social Justice Tournament!

  • The KBI on the Road: In mid-April, Sister Alicia Guevara Pérez, M.E., the KBI’s Casa Nazareth Coordinator, traveled to Mexico City to participate in a conference sponsored by PRAMI (Program de Asuntos Migratorios de la IBERO), an immigration advocacy organization at the Universidad Iberoamericana.
  • Video Conference: If you missed last month’s live video conference, “Witness from the Border,” a collaboration of the KBI and the Ignatian Solidarity Network featuring discussion with University of Scranton students, you can watch it at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/IgnatianSolidarity/videos/1918588641506803/.
  • Youth in Solidarity: During Holy Week, eight high school juniors and two of their teachers from Xavier High School visited the border and KBI. Upon their return to New York City, they promoted KBI in the Ignatian Social Justice Tournament and won a $10,000 award for KBI! Many thanks for your commitment, solidarity, and accompaniment!
  • Immersion Experiences: April was a busy month for immersions, with students from eight high schools and a DC-based Jesuit parish joining us to learn more about the migrant experience, border realities, and advocacy.
