Pedro De Velasco
Director of Education and Advocacy
“IN KINO, I LIVE MY VOCATION TO SERVICE TO THE FULLEST.”
Pedro has been the director of Education and Advocacy at the Kino Foundation for the Border since June 14, 2021. He is responsible for building and strengthening collaboration networks that help reverse anti-immigrant rhetoric and influence the transformation of immigration policies toward a just and humane system. He is a Mexican lawyer with over 12 years of experience working with migrant communities on both sides of the US-Mexico border.
His work at the KBI is to empower and accompany migrants with a unique and comprehensive approach and with Catholic values from Advocacy and Education.
The Advocacy team works to promote the recognition and dignity of migrants by fighting for just, viable, and humane policies in the U.S. and MX. Pedro works in solidarity with migrants to overcome obstacles affecting their integration.
The Education team works on raising awareness to combat false narratives about immigration. One of its primary focuses is to empower and connect student groups.
Pedro says, “It is another way of sowing the seed since he has always been interested in migration. I am a migrant myself. I like to put my knowledge and skills at the service of others, and precisely in Kino, I found the best place to apply my experience. I live my vocation of service to the fullest and do my bit to build a more fair and humane world.”
