Protecting the Rights of Asylum Seekers

Restricting access to asylum violates human rights, U.S. law, and U.S. treaty obligations under international law. Last week, President Trump issued a proclamation connected to a joint rule issued by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to deny access to asylum access for individuals and families entering between the ports of entry. These new regulations sharply increase the vulnerability of asylum seekers, placing them at greater risk of returning to the life-threatening conditions they fled.

The KBI stands in strong opposition to these orders, and has responded with a statement calling for the protection of asylum seekers: https://www.kinoborderinitiative.org/kbi-calls-for-protection-of-dignity-family-and-binationality/?fbclid=IwAR3bhLqIXTMOqNhUM6geMwXEoFtwBZ_V1i0jHXlq2JObm95ihFGh1bnEx7A. We ask that you join us in advocating on behalf of asylum seekers and contesting the president’s proclamation. The Jesuit Refugee Service/USA has prepared an online form to make this as easy as possible: http://cqrcengage.com/jrsusa/app/write-a-letter?0&engagementId=492473. Thank you for your support and action!
