
Edgar Ricaud to hold a benefit concert for KBI on November 19. Join us for an evening of entertainment and art in Tucson featuring tenor Edgar Ricaud. Edgar was born in Nogales, Arizona and grew up in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico and will be hosting this concert as the kick-off of his Recuerdos tour. All proceeds go directly to supporting KBI. KBI Hosts Critical Health Meeting with Sonoran Officials. We hosted a bilateral work meeting at the comedor with members of Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo’s staff. Together, we discussed ways to generate better transit, return and permanence conditions for migrants in Sonora. This meeting was a vital step towards benefitting both Nogalenses and migrants who are in Nogales. It was a strategic way to foster more local hospitality on the Mexican side of the border.
Looking forward to participating in the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. We are eager to participate in the 25th Annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. The 2022 event gathers members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger church) to be empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked. Bishop of Nogales, Sonora meets with KBI staff. Joanna, Pedro and Father Pete held a meeting with Msgr. Leopoldo González, bishop of Nogales to strengthen our collaboration with the parishes in the invitation to solidarity with migrants. He then took action to mobilize parishes.
Two Nogales Priests Visit KBI. After the Bishop’s visit, two Nogales priests came to us ready to find holistic ways to accompany migrants holistically. They committed to supporting migrants with access to the sacraments and spiritual support. Together, we discussed ways to animate their communities to live into solidarity. One of the priests remarked, “What you’re doing is the Church’s responsibility.”
KBI welcomes new staff members. We are thrilled to be welcoming several new staff members to the KBI team! Maria José Sanchez has joined the team as our Development Coordinator. Fr. Joe Spieler, SJ has come on as KBI Chaplain and will focus on offering pastoral care to our staff and volunteers. We are also eager to welcome our new psychologist: Paulina Moron Poblete. Alma Reynoso, who has served as our psychologist for over two years, has been promoted to Coordinator of the Area of Psychology. Click here to view our staff team.
Sr. Pina and Sr. Tachita renew their vows. We congratulate Sr. Pina Bejarano Padilla, M.E. & Sr. Tachita Monjarez, M.E., Shelter Coordinator and Assistant Social Worker respectively for renewing their vows with the order of the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist! We celebrate their renewed commitment and expressed our deepest gratitude for their service.
Revolucionarios held a powerful march on September 26. The Revolucionarios commemorated the internationally recognized World Day of Migrants and Refugees with a march entitled, “We March for Migrant Dignity” on September 26 to decry Title 42. Click here to view media coverage of the event.
Celebrating a wonderful time our staff retreat. Our staff shared about their joys, gratitudes, and hopes as we enjoyed time away together. These retreats offer a moment to come together as a community to appreciate one another and to remember the reasons why we are called to this mission.

We are inviting any member of a Catholic women’s religious order with intermediate/advanced Spanish skills to apply for a 1 month volunteer and advocacy experience with us.
