Position: Social Work Deputy Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Migrant Services
Purpose of Position
The Social Work Deputy Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing the Mexican social work team in providing holistic accompaniment for migrants at Kino Border Initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Social Work Deputy Coordinator will work primarily in the following areas:
a) Holistic Accompaniment (45%)
– Coordinate, implement and supervise the integral accompaniment strategic plan for
migrants in Mexico.
– Provide quality care and attention to migrants.
– Coordinate and implement the needs assessment plan for migrants (dimensions to
evaluate: health, physical, social, socio-economics, psychosocial, housing, spiritual,
cognitive, communication, ethics, cultural, emotional, educational and advocacy) within the
social work department.
– Conduct interviews for migrants to evaluate and detect needs in order to direct them to
resources inside and outside the organization accordingly.
b) Social Work Advocacy (20%)
– Lead and coordinate the Mexican social work advocacy objectives in collaboration with the Advocacy Department for the promotion of inclusive and just policies within the public sector that affirm the rights of migrants.
– Manage and coordinate the plan, in collaboration with the Advocacy Department, for
monitoring and documenting oppresive practices and policies that negatively affect the
dignity and well-being of migrants.
– Lead and manage the collaboration with local organizations to progressively seek
positive changes to frameworks that impact migrant communities in Nogales, Sonora.
c) Coordinate Social Services and Personnel (20%)
– Responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the services for individuals in Mexico within the social work team: livelihood program and the integral accompaniment of migrants in and outside of the shelter.
-Lead, organize and supervise staff to ensure their professional development and active engagement in creatively and faithfully advancing KBI’s mission, vision and strategic plan.
– Lead the planning and coordinate the Mexican social work team strategy and objectives through monthly meetings and collaboration with other departments.
d) Integral Accompaniment in Groups (10%)
– Lead, coordinate and supervise the development and implementation of educational group workshops based on the needs of the population.
– Lead and coordinate the plan for group workshops and talks that support the cultural, personal, creativity and intellectual expression of the migrants.
e) Administrative Tasks (5%)
– Develop monthly statistical reports about the accompaniment provided within the work
area.
– Maintain an updated database for all cases.
– Answering phone messages and emails.

Education, Knowledge, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
– Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of the KBI.
– Bachelors in Sociology, Social Work or Psychology.
– 1- 2 years of proven experience as a Social Work Coordinator or equivalent
– Adherence to ethical codes
– Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with good interpersonal,
communication and organizational skills.
– Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Excellent phone and email etiquette.
– Appreciation for Catholic traditions and spirituality preferred.
– Highly organized and detail-oriented.
– Experience in the use of databases and familiarity with MS Office, G-Suite, and
other relevant software.
– Ability to maintain confidentiality.
– Experience working with vulnerable populations, including an understanding of trauma informed care and secondary trauma preferred.
– Ability to work independently

Language skills:
Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in Spanish and have basic communication skills in spoken and written English.
