Kino Border Initiative thrives because of the dedication and solidarity of volunteers from both sides of the border.
We are happy to welcome those with a heart for solidarity and accompaniment, an interest in collaborating in a bi-national, Spanish speaking environment, and an openness to honor and serve the divine in all human persons, particularly the migrant.
The majority of our volunteers provide direct service in our migrant center located in Nogales, Sonora, México.
There are three main ways to serve:
Regular volunteers are the bedrock of services in our migrant center. We are always in need of volunteers from both sides of the border able to make a sustained weekly or monthly commitment. Please let us know your preferred days and times in the volunteer survey, and our volunteer coordinator will work to accommodate your availability with our needs.
We rely on the vital support and consistency of volunteers able to make a full time commitment of one month or more. At least an intermediate level of Spanish comprehension and speaking ability is required. Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own housing on either side of the border, though the volunteer coordinator is happy to make recommendations. Please let us know your preferred dates in the volunteer survey, and our volunteer coordinator will work with you to match your areas of interest with our needs.
If you resonate with a long term commitment to accompaniment, community, and personal formation in the context of the U.S./Mexico border in Nogales, consider applying for our year long volunteer program. Please contact Rosalie Candau at rcandau@kinoborderinitiative.org for more information, subject line: “KBI One Year Volunteer”.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our migrant center in Nogales, Sonora and our offices in Nogales, Arizona are currently not scheduling volunteers. We look forward to welcoming volunteers in the near future. Please check back soon for updates on how to apply for future opportunities, and thank you for your interest!
