What You Can Do

By: Roxane Ramos

With this month’s Papal visit and ever greater attention on immigration issues, in this country and throughout the world, there are a number of things you can do to show your support of immigration reform and more humane policies.

  • Write to your representative and senators to share with them our forthcoming report, Our Values on the Line (https://www.kinoborderinitiative.org/ after September 15). In your email, include a few sentences about why we need a more humane and just approach to immigration and, if you would like, make reference to Pope Francis’s speeches on immigration. For more details on how to write your congressional representatives, or to let us know who you have contacted, please email KBI Director of Education and Advocacy Joanna Williams at jwilliams@kinoborderinitiative.org.
  • Contact us if you are a licensed nurse or doctor who would like to volunteer with the KBI by providing first aid at our migrant outreach center in Nogales, Sonora. We have a need for volunteers on Friday and Sunday mornings. For more information, please contact Marla Conrad at: marlaconrad@gmail.com.
  • Register to attend the KBI’s Tucson fundraiser, An Afternoon Fiesta in Tucson, scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2015, from 4:00–6:00pm, at the home Joaquín and Bernadette Ruiz. The registration form is available at https://www.kinoborderinitiative.org/afternoon-fiesta-rsvp/.
  • You can make an online donation to the KBI any time to support our direct aid, education, advocacy and research programs. Just go to: https://www.kinoborderinitiative.org/get-involved/donate/.
